Clumps of Honey fungus at the base of a recently felled tree - not a welcome sight, despite their attractive golden colour. The fungus can easily spread and infect other trees and shrubs in the vicinity, causing them to sicken and then usually to die. It's a fungus commonly found in old woodland and parks, and the Calderstones area is noted for the many large old trees in and around the Park.

Most of the herbaceous border has faded now with the onset of colder days, but the last few dahlias add a splash of bright colour against the fallen leaves.
Agapanthus still in flower !
The last of the Black-eyed Susans [?]

In a week or so the whole border will be cleared of top growth ready for the winter. All the foliage and flowers [ some at the back of the border were as tall as 7 or even 8 feet ] will be gone until next Spring. Most of the planting is perennial so will start into growth again next year.
